COVID-19 Outreach Program – Washington State Department of Health

The COVID-19 Pandemic in 2020 exacerbated health inequities among the diverse Asian American communities in the state of Washington. While the world started to move on from the pandemic in 2023, underserved Asian communities continued to suffer from misinformation and lack of resources due to language barriers, tech illiteracy, socioeconomic status, and the fragmentation of the group by ethnicity and religion.

To help close the gap, we built a network of 19 local Asian community organizations and media partners with close ties to their communities to provide much needed support, specifically focusing on highly vulnerable groups that are harder to reach, including seniors, people with limited English proficiency, disabilities and other underserved groups.

From April 2023 to May 2024, our partners helped over 3,000 people who would otherwise not have had access get vaccinated, and we educated our communities through multichannel communications  in 13 languages, via radio spots, news articles, emails, social media posts, and more. We made sure our communities received timely, relevant, and easy-to-understand COVID-19 updates and resources.
